Neighbours
Crossrail is bringing many benefits to local communities
Crossrail is jobs - up to 14,000 people will be employed at the peak on construction between 2013-2015
Crossrail is green – Crossrail is being constructed and operated with a focus on maximum sustainability and with the aim of creating the smallest carbon footprint possible. The newest energy efficient technology is being incorporated as much as possible. More than two thirds of materials excavated will be transported by boat along the Thames and used in landscaping projects including a 1,500-acre nature reserve in Wallasea Island.
Crossrail is local – Crossrail will help to improve the lives of thousands of people through neighbourhood renewal, connecting communities and bringing faster and greater travel options to people living around the route as well as bringing much needed relief to congested areas.
Crossrail is information – the first visitor centres have already opened in St Giles High St, near Tottenham Court Road station and inside The Idea Store at Whitechapel Road. Staff are on hand to answer any questions visitors may have, plus there is a manned 24/7 helpline and email service for any other queries.
