Crossrail facts and stats at a glance
- Crossrail will stretch for 118km from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
- It will have 37 stations including eight brand new central London stations and 28 upgrades of others, 11 of these major reconstructions.
- There will be 42 km of new tunnels beneath central London
- For every £1 spent, £2.60 in benefits will be returned to the community
- As many as 14,000 will work on Crossrail at the peak of construction.
- 1.5 million people will be within a 60 minute commute of Canary Wharf and the West End.
- 24 trains an hour in each direction will run on the central section during peak times.
- Journey times into the capital will be significantly reduced – some by nearly 50%!
- Carriages will be air-conditioned.
- Trains will travel at speeds of up to 100mph on the surface and 60mph in tunnels.
